The Bay of Plenty Times has reported that 3 News is set to beat TVNZ by adding Tauranga as a main centre on their weather forecast from tonight.TV3 Director of News & Current Affairs Mark Jennings says that the plan to add Tauranga to their weather bulletin was not prompted by TVNZ's plans to do so and revealed they have been making preparations for weeks.
"Since the news came out that Tauranga had passed the 116,000 mark, for me that was a bit of breaking story," said Jennings.
Tonight's weather on 3 News will be presented by Mike Hall from Mauao at Mount Maunganui and feature an interview with Tourism Bay of Plenty's general manager Tim Burgess.
TV3 also plans to install a $5,000 weather camera in the city of Tauranga.
