Is Jason Gunn losing his touch?
It has been reported that Jason Gunn's Classic Hits radio show in Christchurch has lost a third of it's audience in the last year.
The 97.7FM breakfast show is down 33 per cent from last year, which is a drop from 21,200 listeners to just 14,100.
Gunn says that he does not pay too much attention to ratings, adding that creating a new show is "not an overnight thing and I'm not resting on my laurels. We are doing things that have never been done before. The best things take time."
Despite Gunn's insistence that the ratings are not the most important thing, bosses in the radio industry do measure a lot of their success on these audience research findings.
This news comes as Jason Gunn's shows The Rich List and Wheel of Fortune have been cancelled by TVNZ.

Target error drives customers away from Ponsonby café
TV3 consumer affairs show Target issued an apology last week after an element of one of it's café hygiene segments contained an error.
The June 16 episode of Target stated that a high level of faecal coliform was found in the chicken at Ponsonby's Café Cezanne. Further investigation by the shows producers found an error in the way an employee had coded the samples from each of the café's featured in the segment. This therefore means that Top Shelf Productions was unable to confirm which café actually had the high reading of faecal coliform in their food.
Top Shelf Productions is said to have fired the employee responsible, saying the error was "completely unacceptable".
Café Cezanne owners Rod Williams and Jackie Wilkinson say they have taken legal advice on the issue as they have experienced a large drop in customer numbers since the episode was broadcast on TV3.
"Sometimes we hear people walking past and saying 'That was the dirty place on Target'. It's horrible," said Wilkinson.
Target producer Laurie Clarke admits the mistake was embarrassing for them, but is satisfied it was completely down to the error of the now former employee.
While we do know that a mistake was made with the coding of the samples, one of the café's featured in the episode of Target - including Café Cezanne - still did produce the high reading of faecal coliform, there is just now no way to confirm which of them it was.
Perhaps Target should re-test each of the café's to confirm their levels of hygiene once and for all.

Michael Jackson's death overloads the internet
The death of Michael Jackson almost brought the internet to a stand-still yesterday, as millions of users around the world raced to both news websites and social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter.
Twitter reportedly had it's number of tweets per minute more than double, and after crashing due to heavy volume had to disable some of it's search and trend topic features. Twitter has not seen this amount of activity since the election of President Barack Obama.
Facebook has also seen a large number of Jackson-related activity. The official Michael Jackson page on Facebook now has over 1 million fans, and these numbers are growing by the thousand each hour. An "RIP Michael Jackson" page created yesterday already has over 400,000 members.
AOL's instant messenger service was also hit, a company press release stating that "AIM was down for approximately 40 minutes this afternoon." The statement said that "today was a seminal moment in Internet history. We've never seen anything like it in terms of scope or depth."
Wikipedia saw over 500 entries made to Michael Jackson's page in less than 24 hours, and was also reportedly overloaded with visitors.
TMZ.com, the website that broke the story, experienced several outages during the day. Blogger Perez Hilton's website was also struggling to deal with the number of visitors searching for news on Michael Jackson.
The only non-Michael Jackson-related search term to enter the top 10 yesterday was a rumour that Jeff Goldblum had fallen to his death from the Kauri Cliffs in New Zealand. His publicist soon released a statement revealing this was completely untrue.
AOL consumer adviser Regina Lewis also stated that the day was a historic milestone for mobile internet traffic, as many people were reading the news headlines from work.
"People wanted to keep tabs on this story, but if you're an accountant you're supposed to be working on your spreadsheet. So they were using their personal cell phones to do so," she explained.

Oscars to allow 10 best film nominees
The Academy Awards are set to double the amount of best film nominees from five to 10.
This was announced by the Academy President Sid Ganis at a press conference, and was decided by the Academy's board of governors. The move is being made to open up the playing field to a larger number of films deemed worthy of the award, and is particularly based on the number of additional films that could have been nominated last year.
"We nominated five, but there were many other great films last year," said Ganis.
This will not be the first time the Oscars have seen 10 movies nominated in the best film category. This number of nominations was often seen right through the 1930's and 1940's.
It has been said the changes could now see animation and comedy receiving best film nominations - these particular types of films have not typically done well in Academy Award nominations in the past.
The change to 10 best film nominees will take effect with next years Oscars.

Breakfast found to be unbalanced
The Broadcasting Standards Authority has upheld a complaint about the unbalanced airing of "the reactionary views of an unqualified right wing individual" by TVNZ's Breakfast show.
A viewer lodged the complaint after an interview last December of Sensible Sentencing Trust's Garth McVicar.
During the discussion, Mr McVicar criticised the leniency of a 21-month prison sentence given to a gun collector convicted of illegally selling his large gun collection, saying the judge had "got it wrong".
Complainant Roger Brooking said: "No attempt was made to present the other side of the argument on sentencing and law and order issues."
The interview enabled Mr McVicar to "repeatedly air his right wing populist views about law and order, generally criticise judges for being too lenient on criminals and expound his belief this fails to send a message of deterrence to other criminals in the community".
Mr Brooking said a lawyer or a criminologist should also have been interviewed and it was inappropriate for the broadcaster to present "the reactionary views of an unqualified right wing individual as if he was the oracle of sentencing law". He also said the presenters expressed sympathy for Mr McVicar's views.
TVNZ refused to uphold his initial complaint, saying it had already balanced the story across its other shows.
However, in its decision, the authority said none of the items the broadcaster referred to offered any balance to the McVicar interview.
It found TVNZ breached the requirement for balance by providing only one viewpoint when discussing a controversial issue of public importance.

TVNZ defends Wendy Petrie after fist pump
A recent One News fault allowed viewers to see Wendy Petrie "fist pumping" after a live cross during the David Bain coverage.
Rumours are now circulating that Petrie will be called into a disciplinary meeting with TVNZ and that she has also threatened to have the accounts of the Youtube users who uploaded the clip deleted.
However a TVNZ spokesperson has dismissed both of these rumours, saying that it was not Petrie's fault and that technical staff failed to activate the switch to stop the broadcast after the cross to the studio had finished.
